Cultivating Gentle Relationships: This Month's Exercise
This year, I chose to live in gentleness, and I'm inviting you to explore, with me, a new way to make it real every month.
After inner peace (January), the words we speak to ourselves with love (February), a less cluttered life (March), reconnecting with my body (April), honoring my emotional truth (May), setting even more boundaries (June), creating for and in joy (July), and resting without having earned it (August), September invites you into something we often put off: cultivating gentle relationships.
Not kept out of habit. Not kept out of fear of losing someone. Gentle, just because they feel good.
Why This Exercise Works
Some relationships drain us without our noticing right away. We keep giving time, attention, energy, to people who only remember us when they need something.
For a long time, I confused loyalty with self-sacrifice. I thought staying meant loving. That leaving meant betraying.
But a friendship, like a romantic relationship, shouldn't cost us more energy than it gives back.
Redefining your circle isn't about becoming hard. It's simply about no longer handing out your gentleness to people who don't know how to receive it.
September's Journaling Exercise
This week, I'm giving you three simple steps.
Think of the last three times you felt truly heard, supported, loved by someone close to you. Write down their names.
Think of one relationship that, lately, leaves you more tired than nourished. No judgment, no need to cut anything off right away. Just to name what you're feeling.
Open your notebook and answer this question:
What does a gentle relationship look like for me, today?
There's no right answer. Just yours.
Carnet de Notes Positives Madras & Hibiscus can support you in this reflection. It's available in the shop.
I'll meet you again at the end of the month to share how I lived out this exercise, and this September, myself.
And to start your September exercise, the Carnet de Notes Positives Madras & Hibiscus and the Marque-Pages Madras & Pearls are waiting for you in the shop.
